Roofer 911 took my money to repair my leaking skylights. The leaking continued?
Luci asked:
In fact, he claimed he offered a “warranty”. But my skylights never stopped leaking. So first he didn’t respond to my emails. Then when I got him by phone he said he would come but just came me one excuse after the other as to why he hadn’t shown up. He couldn’t match the roofing shingle (he used this one twice). He would be out the very next week, but the next week was a big week long rain storm and couldn’t come out because of the weather. Then a family emergency. The list goes on and on. It became clear to me that my phone calls and his responses were just exercises in futility. It has now been 6 months of these broken commitments. Once he even said I needed to fax him a copy of his written warranty so he could be sure he had done my roof in the first place. I offered to show him my cancelled check written to him. Now my drywall is cracking all the way down to my basement. He has my money and my walls are breaking apart. What can I do?
How would you find out his insurance company?
Actually the roof was new. I couldn’t go back to the original roofer to honor the warranty because he was out of business, which is why I hired roofer 911 in the first place.

all roofers are required to carry insurance…
find his insurance company and handle it through them, not him…
if you find he doesn’t have insurance report him to the state, and bring a lawsuit…
The first answer is correct . . . a more practical tip . . . if the water is actually coming in through the sky light . . . that is you can see the moisture collecting on the INSIDE of your home . . . caulk the inside joints of the sky light . . . it will cost you about 2.00 and stop the deterioration of the dry wall . . . you can also caulk the roof parameters (those exposed to the sky) . . . (which I would recommend doing as well) . . . I would also have someone come and look at the leak . . . to make sure one, that it is an actual roof leak (it could be the casing on the skylight just needed to be caulked) . . . if it’s a roof leak . . . a good inexpensive fix is a tar patch . . . you can buy the tar at any local hard ware store for about 30.00 and literally “patch” the leaking area . . . this is not a permanent repair but will generally give you an extra six months to a year . . .
