you state that you had chicken pox, that is where shingles come from. anyone who had chicken pox as a child is open to shingles as an adult but usually when you are more more elderly. they hurt like h-ll and i am told that they can last for quite awhile. talk to your doctor and see if there is anything he/she can do to help you out with them.
I read an article in an science magazine about this. It said shingles are caused by having chicken pox when you were a child. Your body’s defenses destroys most of the chicken pox viruses but some of them manage to escape by hiding in the bone marrow. After many years they “make a run for it”. They migrate very fast to your skin which causes the painful rash. I had a friend that had shingles and he told me that Milk of Magnesia applied to the rash eased the pain more than anything else. If I had shingles I would check with doctor to see if there was anything he could prescribe.
Yes, it can just pop up in anyone who has had chicken pox. It is the same virus becoming active again. These links may help explain it.
